From Nursery to Year 6 children follow a programme that is suited to their age, aptitude and ability. From Year 1 the school implements the National Literacy Strategy and children are given a firm grounding in speaking and listening, reading and comprehension, handwriting, spelling, grammar, creative writing, poetry appreciation and dictionary skills.

‘Ginn Reading’, ‘Oxford Reading Tree’ and ‘Collins Focus on Literacy’ are the core Reading and Language Schemes used supplemented by a wealth of literacy material throughout the school and a library, well stocked with fiction and non-fiction resources. There are also various videos and software packages available in each classroom.
